Our Background

How We Got Here

I retired from Corrections in 2020 after 20 years of a job that was challenging, to say the least. I knew, toward the end of my career, that I wanted to find a job that I was passionate about. I missed working with my father framing houses, which I did part/full time for the better half of 19 years. There is something about working with your hands that is very satisfying. So, I felt the need to get back into woodworking, in some fashion. My wife, Molly, is a lover of all things country and rustic. She had asked me to build a rustic cabinet with a chicken wired front. As I built it, I knew this was the direction I wanted to go in. I was going to start a woodworking business called Chicken Wired Woodworks. I made a few different cabinets for the house and I was almost ready to start this venture when a trip to Harbor Freight to buy a biscuit joiner, led me down a different path. Next to the tool I was searching for was an $8 woodburning pen. I had just recently heard of pyrography and was blown away by some of the professional pyrographers I had seen on Instagram! For $8, I had to atleast try it. I was always able to draw since I was a kid, so I thought this could be fun. I went home and made my little one an octopus and Molly a rooster. I was hooked. Five years later and an upgrade in my pyrography kit, I have a business that I am proud of and, most importantly, passionate about.
